A Collaborative Effort Between the Confluence Art Gallery and Mississippi River Photo ShootOut

The 2018 Mississippi River Art and Photography ShootOut will be open for entries on
August 1st, 2017.

An exhibition to bring together a collection of outstanding contemporary art and photography interpreting, documenting, and celebrating the Mississippi River and life along the Mississippi. Photographs submitted for the juried exhibit may be taken anywhere along the river from its Minnesota headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico. Art and Photography can be of any subject including, but not limited to, sights and scenes depicting riverscapes, recreation, commerce, wildlife, weather conditions, nature and natural phenomena. Rivers that flow into the Mississippi River will not be considered for the exhibit other than images of their confluence with the Mississippi River. The river itself does not need to appear in every photograph to be eligible for the exhibition, but to be considered the subject matter must have a direct relationship with the river. 

"Our goal is to assemble a large body of photography, 100 to 125 artworks, that are as rich and diverse as the Mississippi River itself."

CATEGORIES:  There are only two catagories, works of art(2D and 3D), and photography.

• Entry Deadline: November 16, 2016
• Acceptance Notification: November 18, 2016, all notifications will be by email.
• OnLine Exhibition Dates: November 28 through July 5, 2017

AWARDS: We will offer several awards which could be either monetary or prizes. There may be several purchase awards to be announced later. 

• Art Best of Show - $100 and the opportunity to exhibt a body of your artwork at Confluence Art Gallery for one year.
• Photography Best of Show - $100 and the opportunity to exhibt a body of your photography at Confluence Art Gallery for one year.
• First Prize in each category, Art and Photography - $100 each
• Second prize in each category, Art and Photography - $50.
• Other sponsored awards may be announced in the future.

OUR JUDGES: To make sure the judging is representative of the Mississippi River we willselect three well qaulified judges that live, work and play along the river.

ENTRY GUIDELINES: This exhibition is open to all artist and photographers, amateur and professional, 18 years or older. All artwork submitted must be original, and must have been created within the last three years (since January 1, 2014). 

ENTRY FEE: Artists and photographers may submit up to five images for a non-refundable entry fee of $10.00 per image.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Photographs must be submitted in .jpg, jpeg format. They must be RGB color or grayscale for Black and White images. Images should not be larger than 2000 pixels on the longest side. Minimum resolution 300kb, Maximum resolution 3MB. Title each JPEG file with an image # using the following format: yourlastname1.image title.jpg, yourlastname2.image title.jpg (e.g. Jones1.Chain of Rocks Sunset.jpg).  JPEG images must accurately represent the photograph. The photographs you submit must have been made within the last three years (January 2014, through November 2016).

PHOTOGRAPHY OWNERSHIP: Ownership of all artwork and photography will remain with the artist.  Artists whose work is accepted will be required to give us permission to use their photos for advertising and promoting the exhibition and future exhibitions. 

THE EXHIBITION: The exhibit will be displayed online at the and at through July 5th, 2017. The art at will be available for sale unless marked 'NFS (Not For Sale). Confluence Art Gallery will take a 35% commission.
